Meet the Chiikawa Characters

Part of what makes Chiikawa so special is the friendship at the center of every story. These three little characters have their own personalities, and once you get to know them, you’ll have favorites to color right away.

Chiikawa is the main character – a tiny, round little creature with big, expressive eyes and the most endearing reactions to everything life throws at them. Creator Nagano has intentionally never revealed what species Chiikawa is, which only adds to the charm. Some fans think hamster, some think rabbit – but honestly, Chiikawa is just Chiikawa, and that mystery is part of what makes the character so universally lovable.

Hachiware is Chiikawa’s best friend – a white cat with a signature black marking on their forehead (the name literally means “split into eight” in Japanese). Hachiware is kind, dependable, and always right there beside Chiikawa, no matter what. If you love the loyal best friend character, Hachiware is yours.

Usagi is the third of the trio – a bright white rabbit with big bunny ears and an endless supply of energy and mischief. Usagi brings so much humor and surprise to the series and is responsible for some of the most memorable moments in the manga. Full of personality, always unpredictable, and impossible not to love.

Together, the three of them navigate daily life – sometimes joyful, sometimes surprisingly emotional – but always with each other. That’s the heart of Chiikawa: a story about friendship, small acts of courage, and finding happiness in the little things.

What’s Inside Our Chiikawa Coloring Collection

Our collection features all three main characters across 15 pages, with a mix of solo portraits and group scenes that capture the spirit of the series perfectly.

You’ll find Chiikawa solo pages that let you focus entirely on that iconic round shape and those expressive little eyes. These are wonderful starting pages – simple enough to feel satisfying quickly, with just enough detail to make the finished result feel special.

The Hachiware pages highlight the cat’s distinctive markings and gentle expression. Hachiware is one of the most satisfying characters to color in this series because the contrast between the white fur and the dark stripes gives you clear areas to work with.

Usagi pages bring a different energy – more dynamic poses, bigger expressions, and that unmistakable rabbit silhouette. Great for anyone who loves a little more personality in their coloring.

And then there are the group pages – Chiikawa, Hachiware, and Usagi together – which are honestly some of our favorites in the entire collection. When all three are in the same scene, the storytelling just feels complete.

7 Fun Things to Make With Your Chiikawa Coloring Pages

One of the things we love most about this collection is how far a printed Chiikawa page can go. These aren’t just coloring pages – they’re a starting point for all kinds of creative projects. Here are seven ideas the Chiikawa fan community loves, all easy enough to do at home.

Make a Chiikawa Keychain

This is one of the most popular Chiikawa fan crafts out there, and it’s easier than it looks. You’ll need heat-shrink paper, which you can find at craft stores or order online. Print your favorite Chiikawa page at the size you want for your keychain, color it in, then place the heat shrink paper on top and trace the outline with a marker. Paint the traced image with watercolor, use a heat tool to shrink it down, trim the edges, and punch a small hole at the top for the key ring. Attach it to your bag, backpack, jacket zipper, or keys – a handmade Chiikawa keychain that’s completely one-of-a-kind.

Create Your Own Stickers

Simple, fun, and honestly a little addictive once you start. Print several Chiikawa pages at the smallest size that still shows the details clearly. If you have sticker paper, feed it into your printer, and you’re basically done after coloring and cutting. With regular paper, color the images, cut them out, and add double-sided tape to the back. Stick them on your notebook, water bottle, laptop, phone case – anywhere you want a little Chiikawa energy in your day.

Design a Chiikawa Photocard

Chiikawa photocards have become a huge thing in the fan community, and making your own is a genuinely thoughtful gift. Choose your favorite page and size it to standard photocard dimensions. You can color directly in your browser using our online coloring tool, or download and use any digital coloring software you like. Print on photo paper for the best result, or use regular paper and finish with watercolor. Flip it over, write a message on the back, and slip it into an envelope. Trust us – whoever receives a handmade Chiikawa photocard is going to smile.

Put Together a Blind Bag

Blind bags are sealed surprise packages, and kids absolutely love them. Print a Chiikawa design onto thick cardstock, color it in, then fold and glue it into a small pocket shape, leaving the bottom open. Stuff it with cotton, a mini toy, candy – whatever little surprise you have in mind – then seal it closed. Draw stitch lines around the edge to give it a finished look. A handmade Chiikawa blind bag is the kind of gift that gets a genuine reaction every single time.

Make a Squishy Book

A squishy book is a soft, padded book where every page has a little pillow feel to it – part toy, part art project, and totally irresistible. Choose the pages you want to include and print them on glossy paper. Color each one, then cut out two copies of each image to create the front and back of every page. Glue the two sides together with a layer of cotton stuffed in the middle. Arrange your pages in whatever order you like and bind them together with glue along one edge. The softest, squishiest Chiikawa book – made entirely by you.

Frame a Chiikawa Print

Sometimes the simplest idea is the best one. Color a Chiikawa page slowly and carefully using acrylic paint or colored pencils on good-quality paper. Take your time with the shading, add depth to the background, let it dry completely, and put it in a frame. Set it on your bookshelf, hang it on your wall, or give it as a gift to a fellow Chiikawa fan. A framed, hand-colored Chiikawa illustration is genuinely beautiful – and it means so much more because you made it yourself.

Craft Finger Puppets

A perfect rainy afternoon activity with kids. Print Chiikawa, Hachiware, and Usagi on thick paper or cardstock, color them in, and cut them out. Fold each character in half along the center line, apply glue along one side, and leave the bottom open for your finger to slide through. Press the edges firmly and let the glue dry. Now slide your fingers in and let the trio come to life – tell your own Chiikawa stories, make up new adventures, or just let the kids take over completely.

Coloring Tips for the Chiikawa Crew

Chiikawa has a very distinct color palette in the original series, and staying close to it will make your finished pages feel instantly recognizable to any fan.

For Chiikawa, go with a soft off-white or warm cream rather than pure white. The character’s roundness and gentle vibe come through much better with a slightly warm base tone. The eyes are solid black with a tiny highlight dot – that little white speck is what brings the whole face to life.

For Hachiware, the white fur and black stripe contrast is the defining visual. Keep the body white or slightly warm, and make the forehead marking a clean, dark black. The eyes have a softer, more relaxed expression than Chiikawa’s – slightly more horizontal, which gives Hachiware that calm and reassuring look.

For Usagi, pure bright white works beautifully for the fur, with those tall, rounded ears staying the same tone. Usagi’s eyes are wide and expressive, often conveying surprise or excitement – this is the most important detail for capturing the character’s personality.

For backgrounds and accessories, this is where you get to have the most fun. Nagano’s original style uses soft pastel tones – mint green, pale yellow, powder blue, light pink – that create a world that feels gentle and dreamy. You can follow the original palette or take it somewhere completely different. That’s your call, and there’s no wrong answer.
