About the Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions are a professional American football team and a founding member of the National Football League, competing in the NFC North division. The franchise was established in 1929 as the Portsmouth Spartans in Portsmouth, Ohio, and relocated to Detroit, Michigan, in 1934 when radio broadcaster George Richards purchased the team and renamed it the Lions. The name was chosen to complement Detroit’s other major sports franchise, the Tigers, giving the city a ferocious animal pairing in baseball and football.

The Lions play their home games at Ford Field, a domed stadium in downtown Detroit that opened in 2002 and holds approximately 65,000 fans. Ford Field is located in the heart of Detroit’s sports and entertainment district, adjacent to Comerica Park, home of the Tigers. The stadium’s downtown location reflects the Lions’ identity as a Motor City institution – one of the pillars of Detroit’s sports culture alongside the Tigers (MLB, est. 1901), the Red Wings (NHL, est. 1926), and the Pistons (NBA, est. 1941).

The Lions are one of the NFL’s most storied franchises in terms of early history – they won four NFL Championships: in 1935, 1952, 1953, and 1957. However, the franchise has not won an NFL Championship since 1957 and has never appeared in a Super Bowl, making its fans among the most loyal in the NFL despite decades of competitive adversity.

The 2023 season marked the most significant moment in the franchise’s modern era. Under head coach Dan Campbell, the Lions won the NFC North division title – their first division championship since 1993 – and advanced to the NFC Championship Game for the first time since 1991, falling to the San Francisco 49ers. The 2023 season ended a 30-year drought without a division title and generated the most national attention and fan enthusiasm the franchise had experienced in generations.

Team colors are Honolulu Blue and Silver. “Honolulu Blue” is the Lions’ specific, trademarked shade of blue – a medium, slightly desaturated blue-teal that is distinctly different from standard navy or royal blue. The combination of Honolulu Blue and Silver has been the franchise’s color identity throughout its history, and the current uniform iteration prominently features the blue and silver palette on the helmet, jersey, and pants.

Players and People in This Collection

Jared Goff – Quarterback (#16) is the Lions’ starting quarterback and the franchise’s most important player in its modern resurgence. Goff was acquired from the Los Angeles Rams in a 2021 trade that also involved the Lions selecting a package of draft picks used to rebuild the roster. In the 2023 season, Goff threw for 4,575 yards and 29 touchdowns with only 7 interceptions – one of the best statistical seasons in Lions history – and was named to the Pro Bowl. The two Jared Goff tiles (Jared Goff Coloring Page and Jared Goff Coloring Page Free) depict him in game action in the Lions’ Honolulu Blue and Silver uniform with #16 on the jersey.

Amon-Ra St. Brown – Wide Receiver (#14) is the Lions’ top receiver and one of the most productive wide receivers in the NFL. Born in Los Angeles to a German father (former bodybuilder Steffan St. Brown) and an Egyptian-American mother, St. Brown has spoken publicly about his multicultural identity and represents one of the NFL’s more internationally connected stories. He set the Lions’ single-season receptions record in 2022 and continued his elite production in 2023. His #14 jersey in Honolulu Blue is depicted in the Amon-Ra St. Brown Coloring Page.

Sam LaPorta – Tight End (#87) was selected in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft from Iowa. As a rookie in 2023, he broke the NFL rookie record for receptions by a tight end with 86 catches – one of the most productive rookie tight end seasons in league history. He was named to the Pro Bowl as a rookie. The Sam LaPorta Coloring Page captures him in his Lions uniform.

Jahmyr Gibbs – Running Back (#26) was selected with the 12th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft from Alabama, making him one of the highest-drafted running backs in recent NFL draft history. He is known for exceptional speed and pass-catching ability out of the backfield. His partnership with fellow running back David Montgomery gave the Lions one of the most balanced rushing attacks in the NFC in 2023. The Jahmyr Gibbs Coloring Page covers his portrait in a Lions uniform.

Penei Sewell – Offensive Tackle (#58) was selected 7th overall in the 2021 NFL Draft from Oregon and is widely regarded as one of the best offensive linemen in the NFL. At just 23 years old as of the 2023 season, Sewell was named a Pro Bowl alternate and is considered the cornerstone of the Lions’ offensive line for the next decade. The Penei Sewell Coloring Page depicts the large offensive tackle in his Lions uniform.

Dan Campbell, Head Coach, was hired by the Lions in January 2021 and is one of the most distinctively personality-driven coaches in the NFL. A former NFL tight end himself, Campbell is known for his intense, emotional, and physically demanding coaching philosophy and his memorable press conferences, including his introductory press conference statement that his team would compete so hard opponents would have to “bite a kneecap off” to beat them. His bond with the players and the Detroit fan base has been a central narrative of the Lions’ resurgence. The Dan Campbell Coloring Page depicts the head coach on the sideline.

Sheila Ford Hamp, Principal Owner, is the granddaughter of William Clay Ford, who purchased the Detroit Lions in 1964 and held the team until his death in 2014, when his wife, Martha Ford, inherited ownership. Sheila Ford Hamp became the principal owner in 2020, making her one of a small number of women to hold that title for an NFL franchise. She has overseen the organizational rebuild that produced the 2023 NFC North championship season. The Sheila Ford Hamp Coloring Page features the owner in a portrait.

Alex Anzalone – Linebacker (#34) is a veteran linebacker who has been one of the Lions’ defensive captains and the unquestioned leader of the defense through the Campbell era. A Louisiana native who played at Florida, Anzalone’s leadership role extends beyond his on-field production. The Alex Anzalone Coloring Page covers his defensive portrait.

Charles Harris – Defensive End (#53) is an edge rusher who has been part of the Lions’ defensive rebuild. The Charles Harris Coloring Page covers his portrait in the Lions’ defensive uniform.

Jalen Reeves-Maybin – Linebacker (#44) – is the Lions’ special teams captain, one of the most important special teams players in the NFL, and a core contributor across all facets of the game beyond his linebacker duties. The Jalen Reeves-Maybin Coloring Page covers his portrait.

Jack Fox – Punter (#3) is a Canadian punter from St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia who became one of the best punters in the NFL. He was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2020 and has been consistently among the top punters in the league by average yards per punt and hang time. The Jack Fox Coloring Page is one of the few punter-specific player pages in any NFL team coloring collection on the site.

Teddy Bridgewater – Quarterback served as the Lions’ backup quarterback. The Teddy Bridgewater Coloring Page covers his portrait.

The Detroit Lions Logo tile depicts the franchise’s current leaping lion logo – the lion in a forward-leaping pose, rendered in Honolulu Blue and Silver, which has been the visual identity of the franchise since its 1960s-era redesign and subsequent refinements.

The Uniform tile depicts the Detroit Lions game uniform – Honolulu Blue jersey, Silver pants, Silver helmet with the Lions wordmark and Honolulu Blue lion logo, and the number placement standard to the current uniform design.

The Mascot tile depicts Roary the Lion, the Detroit Lions’ official mascot, a costumed lion who appears at home games at Ford Field and community events.

The Detroit Lions’ Colors: A Coloring Guide

Honolulu Blue is the most important and most technically specific color in the Detroit Lions’ palette. It is a medium-intensity blue with a slight teal or cyan bias – distinctly lighter and cooler than navy blue, distinctly more blue than teal, and notably different from the cobalt or royal blue used by teams like the New York Giants or Dallas Cowboys. In crayon or marker terms, “cerulean” or a slightly lighter “blue” crayon comes closest to Honolulu Blue. The color is named for the shade associated with the city of Honolulu, Hawaii – a bright, tropical-influenced blue – and the Lions have used this specific blue as their primary team color continuously since 1934.

Silver is the Lions’ secondary color – a true metallic silver rather than gray. On jerseys and pants, the silver reads as a medium-light gray when printed in black and white, but in full color, it has the reflective, metallic quality of actual silver. For coloring purposes, a medium cool gray (slightly blue-biased rather than warm) captures the silver’s character on printed media.

The jersey is Honolulu Blue with silver numbers outlined in white. The number font is the current NFL-standard Lions number typeface, which has a slightly bold, athletic character. The helmet is silver-metallic with the Lions’ word mark and the leaping lion logo in Honolulu Blue and white on the side.

The lion logo uses Honolulu Blue for the lion’s body outline and mane details, with the lion’s form suggesting forward motion and power. The logo appears on both the team helmet and in the standalone Detroit-Lions-Logo tile.

Player skin tones in the player tiles should be rendered in their natural skin colors – unlike fantasy character coloring pages, NFL player portrait coloring pages benefit from naturalistic skin tone choices that make the player identifiable rather than purely expressive color choices.
