Harry S. Truman (May 8, 1884 – December 26, 1972) was the thirty-third President of the United States (1945–1953), succeeded by the death of Franklin D. Roosevelt while serving as vice president. . He implemented the Marshall Plan to rebuild the economy of Western Europe and founded the Truman Doctrine and NATO.

Harry Truman was born in Lamar, Missouri; he is a persistent but unsuccessful farmer and businessman. Truman surprised many by becoming a cultured and hard-working politician when he unexpectedly became a senator in 1934. Ten years later, he became President of the United States at the age of 60 on Thursday, April 12, 1945, and left office on Tuesday, January 20, 1953.
